2024 Volvo EX90 Chicago

Setting the Tone for Volvo’s Next Generation: 2024 Volvo EX90

Volvo's first all-electric SUV is here. Everyone, meet the Volvo EX90. With seven comfortable, adult-sized seats and a large cargo area, the 2024 Volvo EX90 is ready for adventure.

The SUV has an electric range of 300 miles, charges up to 80% in 30 minutes, has 496 hp, and goes from 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. Featuring all-wheel drive and one-pedal drive, every ride in the Volvo EX90 is both exciting and relaxing. Volvo is on pace to go electric with all vehicles by 2030. For the time being, though, the combustion version of the Volvo EX90, the Volvo XC90, is still available - and refreshed for 2024.

The all-electric feature isn't the only sustainable aspect of the Volvo EX90. The materials used throughout were thoughtfully chosen and are environmentally friendly. The wood trim that lines the luxurious interior is FSC certified, ensuring it comes from a responsibly managed forest, which provides environmental, social, and economic benefits.

The Volvo EX90's textiles are sustainable, too, as they're made from recycled plastic bottles. Recycled plastics and bio-based materials make up a whopping 110 pounds of the vehicle. Buyers can also choose a seating material option made from a humane wool blend. The interior composition reflects Volvo's goal to be a fully circular and climate-neutral company by 2040, only ten years after achieving an all-electric offering.

Top-notch safety and tech features fill the Volvo EX90 SUV. In fact, it's the safest vehicle Volvo has ever produced. The star is Occupant Sensing, a combination of safety and tech. It senses occupants in the vehicle to prevent the driver from locking the car if a child or pet is detected within. Absolutely nothing is more important than preventing child deaths in hot cars, which is what this technology will do. The 2024 Volvo EX90 SUV also displays a reminder on the center infotainment screen and can override the climate controls to maintain a comfortable interior temperature, keeping occupants safe.

Additional new safety features include Intersection Straight Crossing Path and the Driver Understanding System. The first reacts to oncoming vehicles when making a left turn and notifies the driver of potential hazards coming from the sides when driving straight through an intersection. It then automatically brakes if necessary. The Driver Understanding System uses signals to detect if you are distracted or drowsy and steps in to support when needed.

Bi-directional charging capability is another top feature to note. This means the Volvo EX90 can not only take in power, but it can also send power back into your home, appliances, and even other electric vehicles. When plugged in at home, it can potentially ease the strain on the electrical grid when demand is high, and when unplugged, becomes a battery on wheels that can power anything from power tools to a portable grill. If another electric vehicle needs a bit of charge, the Volvo EX90 can lend a helping hand - and other EVs can do the same if needed.
